Cebu Pacific, Pleased With RP-Korea Air Talks

Cebu Pacific has expressed satisfaction in the results of recent re-negotiations of RP-Korean air agreements for an increase in number of flights between the two countries.

Recently, the Philippine Air Negotiating Panel, composed of officials from the Department of Transportation and Communication, Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Trade and Industry, Civil Aeronautics Board, and Clark Development Corporation, as well as representatives from Philippine air carriers, met with their counterparts in Korea . This was for a two-day consultation talk to discuss additional capacity entitlements between the two countries.

At the end of the talks, a new Memorandum of Understanding was forged, which agreement includes provisions for an increase in flight frequencies. Prior to this, all flight entitlements were being fully utilized by carriers of both sides; now there will be room for Cebu Pacific to serve the route between the two countries, something that has always been in the drawing board.

Moreover, the new agreement will also allow code sharing between airlines and additional capacity for cargo. Code sharing is a facility that allows two airlines to share the seat capacity on one aircraft, each selling under its own name.

Both Korea and the Philippines likewise appended to their original Air Services Agreement (ASA), agreed terms for enhanced aviation safety measures.

Korea is presently one of the biggest tourism markets in the Philippines . A total of almost 151,000 Korean residents visited the Philippines from January to September 2001, according to the Department of Tourism figures. This represents a 19.6% increase in the number of visitors from the same period of year 2000, a remarkable growth at the time when tourist arrivals elsewhere are on the wane.
