In-flight Attire By Rajo Laurel

A subtle interplay of color, denim-like elements in pieces that can be mixed and matched: all connoting fun, comfort and relaxation. This is how celebrated designer Rajo Laurel describes Cebu Pacific's latest uniforms for cabin crew.

“We wanted our uniforms to be consistent with the airline's personality,” related Tina Trinidad, Cebu Pacific's Vice President for In-flight Services. “They should be pretty, playful, distinctly Cebu Pacific, at the same time, functional and non-restrictive to the wearer. They should also make passengers feel comfortable and at ease with our flight attendants.”

With these considerations in mind, the Cebu Pacific team set out to choose the most apt designer for the task. Rajo Laurel was immediately top of mind.

“Rajo's style has always been forward and fearless in the sense that he's full of new ideas,” said Tina. “He's young, vibrant and unique, and his creations are playful and practical at the same time. We knew he would be the best designer for the job.”

Rajo Laurel, known as the “Wonder Boy of Philippine Fashion,” readily welcomed the challenge of interpreting the airline's core values into wearable form.

“I've been a Cebu Pacific customer for quite some time now,” said Rajo. “And I'm quite familiar with the way they operate. I know that the airline's strengths are affordability, their personalized service and being on-time.

“When I was asked to create both the weekend and weekday apparel of Cebu Pacific's flight attendants, the first things that I thought of were the friendly, casual, personalized service of Cebu Pacific and its on-time, no-nonsense performance,” added Rajo. “I wanted to translate all of this into an ensemble. It was challenging to try capturing the airline's personality in fit and fabric.”

The result: cabin crew “capsule” wardrobe, with articles that easily interlock for a quick change of look.

For the ladies' weekday attire: straight cut skirt that falls softly above the knees and a neoteric boxy-shaped jacket, both in navy, embellished with teal top stitching; and a blouse in funky teal checks. The men will greet passengers in navy slacks complimented with a navy jacket lined in teal and a crisp white button-down shirt. The weekends showcase a polished sporty look with khaki skorts for the ladies, khaki trousers for the men and ochre jackets for both.

“All the pieces allow ease of movement for heightened efficiency,” said Rajo. “The ensemble gives off an air of warm friendliness, just right for the attitude of Cebu Pacific's flight attendants.”

Said Cebu Pacific's Bing Stoifel, “we're very excited about the new uniforms. The overall look is fashionable and easy on the eyes. At the same time, there's freedom of motion, which is a very important factor in a flight attendant's uniform.”

This new attire will be launched in February 2002.
