Kalibo

Kalibo, while being the capital of Aklan province, is probably best known as the most convenient connecting point to Boracay, the world-famous beach destination that comes close to being the perfect island getaway.

Just in case you haven't heard, Boracay not only has powder white-sand beaches but also a variety of fabulous water sports, a golf course, and a rocking nightlife that lasts till daybreak.

While you're in Kalibo, stay for the racuous Ati-Atihan in January, the mother of all Philippine festivals. Wild, soot-covered townsfolk fill the streets to commemorate their tribal ancestors and the Holy Child Jesus, who miraculously saved the town from pirates. Like the natives, visitors must dance to drumbeats while hollering at the top of their lungs, "Viva Señor Sto. Nino!"
